The Dan Glickman Papers contain congressional correspondence, constituent correspondence, federal policy letters, reports, publications and photographs documenting Glickmans 18-year tenure as Congressman of the 4th Congressional District in Kansas, an eleven-county area around and including Wichita, Kansas, his hometown. Of particular interest in the collection are documents concerning agriculture, aviation, a hazardous waste site at Furley, Kansas, and the creation of the National Tallgrass Prairie Reserve in Kansas. Included in the collection are materials relating to Glickmans activities on the House Science and Technology Committee, including the sub-committee of Transportation, Aviation and Materials which he chaired from 1981 to 1987; and the House Agriculture Committee, including the sub-committee on Wheat, Soybeans and Feed Grains which he chaired from 1988 to 1993. The papers of U. S. Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman consist of two separate series documenting his tenure as Secretary of Agriculture. The first series consists of Confirmation Hearing files, briefing books, memos, reports, correspondence and awards. The second series was prepared by Glickmans staff as a History of the USDA under Glickman and are duplicate copies of materials sent to the National Archives. This series contains reports, memos, correspondence, and videocassettes of Glickman appearances and interviews with Glickman and the USDA staff.
