A letter from Peter Myndert Dox to Thomas Banks Cabaniss written on October 31, 1869. In the letter, Peter Dox discusses Reconstruction issues, including Peter Dox’s conduct and voting as a Democrat in Congress, and his opposition to the appointment of blacks to positions in the U.S. House of Representatives by the Doorkeeper. Other subjects covered include Peter Dox’s cousin Cornelius Wendell (a lobbyist), the U.S. postal service, and the U.S. Circuit Court in Huntsville, Alabama.
