Correspondence covers all aspects of Chases public career including law practice, Ohio and national politics, the Liberty party, his opposition to slavery, national finance, military operations of the Civil War, involvement with cases and other business of the Supreme Court and national issues of the day including politics, the impeachment of Andrew Johnson, creation of a national currency, and the progress of Reconstruction.
