The papers document the period 1978-1986 when Carroll Campbell served in the U.S. House of Representatives for the Fourth Congressional District (Greenville, Spartanburg, and Union Counties). The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence. The papers include the following series: Administration, Committees, Correspondence, Legislation, Media Relations, Newspapers Clippings, Photographs, Speeches, Video tapes, and Ways and Means Committee. The bulk of the collection consists of Campbell’s speeches, clippings, audiovisual materials, and some topical files from his terms as Governor of South Carolina and as President and CEO of the American Council on Life Insurance (ACLI), 1995-2001. These activities include his work in the National Governors Association and the Republican Party, his education and tax reform efforts as a member of several national policy groups, and his campaigns for public office.
