SUTTON, James Patrick, a Representative from Tennessee; born on a farm near Wartrace, Bedford County, Tenn., October 31, 1915; attended the public schools of Wartrace, Tenn., and Cumberland University Law School, Lebanon, Tenn.; graduated from Middle Tennessee State College, Murfreesboro, Tenn., 1939; United States Navy, World War II, 1942-1946; awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster; elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-first and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1949-January 3, 1955); unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic nomination for United States Senator in 1954; investment securities broker; died on February 3, 2005, in Berrien Center, Mich..
