SATTERFIELD, Dave Edward, Jr., (father of David E. Satterfield III),
a Representative from Virginia; born in Richmond, Va., September 11,
1894; attended the public schools; was graduated from the law department of the
University of Richmond, in 1916; was admitted to the bar the same year and
commenced practice in Richmond, Va.; during the First World War enlisted in the
United States Navy in 1917; was transferred to the Naval Flying Corps and
commissioned as a first lieutenant; lieutenant commander, United States Naval
Reserve Force, 1917-1919; Commonwealths attorney for Richmond, Va., 1922-1933;
resigned to return to the private practice of law; elected as a Democrat to the
Seventy-fifth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Andrew J.
Montague; reelected to the Seventy-sixth and to the three succeeding Congresses
and served from November 2, 1937, until his resignation on February 15, 1945,
to become general counsel and executive director of the Life Insurance
Association of America at New York City, died in Richmond, Va., December 27,
1946; interment in Hollywood Cemetery.
