OSTERTAG, Harold Charles, a Representative from New York; born in Attica, Wyoming County, N.Y., June 22, 1896; attended the public schools; was graduated from Chamberlain Military Institute at Perry, N.Y., in 1915; during the First World War enlisted in the Seventy-fourth Infantry, Twenty-seventh Division, and served in France with the Fifty-fifth Pioneer Infantry; employed with the New York Central Railroad 1917-1950, advancing to assistant to the vice president, traffic department; member of the State assembly 1932-1950; member of board of managers of the Council of State Governments 1935-1950; delegate to the Republican state conventions 1930-1958; delegate to the Republican National Conventions in 1952, 1956, and 1960; elected as a Republican to the Eighty-second and to the six succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1951-January 3, 1965); was not a candidate for renomination to the Eighty-ninth Congress; was a resident of Perry, N.Y., until his death on May 2, 1985, in Pompano Beach, Fla.
