MUDD, Sydney Emanuel, (son of Sydney Emanuel Mudd [1858-1911]),
a Representative from Maryland; born at Gallant Green, Charles
County, Md., June 20, 1885; attended the public schools of Charles County and
the District of Columbia; moved with his parents to La Plata, Md., in 1896; was
graduated from the academic department of Georgetown University, Washington,
D.C., in 1906 and from the law department in 1909; unsuccessful candidate for
election to the Maryland house of delegates in 1909; was admitted to the bar in
1910; professor of criminal law at Georgetown University Law School in 1910;
appointed assistant district attorney of the District of Columbia in February
1911 and resigned in March 1912; unsuccessful candidate for nomination in 1912
for election to the Sixty-third Congress; reappointed assistant district
attorney in July 1912 and resigned in March 1914, to become a candidate for
Congress; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fourth and to the four
succeeding Congresses and served from March 4, 1915, until his death in
Baltimore, Md., October 11, 1924; interment in St. Ignatius Catholic Church
Cemetery, Chapel Point, near La Plata, Charles County, Md.
