McMILLAN, John Lanneau, a Representative from South Carolina; born on a farm near Mullins,
Marion County, S.C., April 12, 1898; educated Mullins High School, University
of North Carolina, and South Carolina, also University of South Carolina Law
School and National Law School, Washington, D.C.; selected to represent United
States Congress at the Interparliamentary Union in London in 1960, and in Tokyo
in 1961; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-sixth and to the sixteen
succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1939-January 3, 1973); chairman, Committee on
District of Columbia (Seventy-ninth, Eighty-first, Eighty-second and
Eighty-fourth through Ninety-second Congresses); unsuccessful candidate for
renomination in 1972 to the Ninety-third Congress; resided in Florence, S.C.,
where he died September 3, 1979; interment in the McMillan family cemetery,
Mullins, S.C.
