MAGEE, John Alexander, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Landisburg, Perry
County, Pa., October 14, 1827; attended the common schools and was graduated
from New Bloomfield Academy; engaged in the printing business and for a number
of years published the Perry County Democrat; member of the State house of
representatives in 1863; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in
1868, 1876, and 1896; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-third Congress (March
4, 1873-March 3, 1875); was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1874
to the Forty-fourth Congress; resumed his former business pursuits; died in New
Bloomfield, Perry County, Pa., November 18, 1903; interment in Bloomfield
Cemetery.
