LINDSAY, George Henry, (father of George Washington Lindsay),
a Representative from New York; born in New York City January 7,
1837; moved with his parents to Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1843; attended the public
schools; engaged in the real estate and investment business; member of the
State assembly 1882-1886; coroner of Kings County 1886-1892; appointed
assistant tax commissioner in 1898; delegate to various national and State
conventions; elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-seventh and to the five
succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1901-March 3, 1913); declined to be a candidate
for renomination in 1912; lived in retirement until his death in Brooklyn N.Y.,
May 25, 1916; interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
