KEISTER, Abraham Lincoln, (1852 - 1917)


KEISTER, Abraham Lincoln, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Upper Tyrone Township, Fayette County, Pa., near the present borough of Scottdale, Westmoreland County, Pa., September 10, 1852; attended the public schools; was graduated from Otterbein University, Westerville, Ohio, in 1874; studied law; was admitted to the bar by the supreme court of Ohio in 1878 and commenced practice in Columbus, Ohio; moved to Fayette County, Pa., in 1882; engaged in the manufacture of coke; organized the First National Bank of Scottdale, Pa., in 1889 and served continuously as its president for twenty-eight years; organized the Scottdale Savings & Trust Co. in 1901, with which he was connected until the time of his death; member of the Scottdale Board of Education for more than twenty years; was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-third and Sixty-fourth Congresses (March 4, 1913-March 3, 1917); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1916; resumed his former business pursuits; died at his home in Scottdale, Westmoreland County, Pa., on May 26, 1917; interment in Scottdale Cemetery.
