GRIFFIN, Anthony Jerome, a Representative from New York; born in New York City April 1, 1866;
attended the public schools, City College, Cooper Union, and the New York
University Law School; was admitted to the bar in 1892 and commenced practice
in New York City; organized and commanded Company F, Sixty-ninth Regiment, New
York Volunteer Infantry, in the Spanish-American War in 1898 and 1899; founded
and edited the Bronx Independent 1905-1907; member of the State senate
1911-1915; member of the New York State constitutional convention in 1915;
elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-fifth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by
the resignation of Henry Bruckner; reelected to the Sixty-sixth and to the
eight succeeding Congresses and served from March 5, 1918, until his death in
New York City, January 13, 1935; interment in Arlington National Cemetery.
