GAYDOS, Joseph Matthew, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Braddock, Allegheny County, Pa., July 3, 1926; attended Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pa., 1945-1947; LL.B., University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Ind., 1951; United States Navy Reserve, 1944-1946; lawyer, private practice; admitted to the bar in 1952 and commenced practice in Pittsburgh, Pa.; member of the Pennsylvania state senate, 1967-1968; deputy attorney general of Pennsylvania; Allegheny County, Pa., assistant solicitor; elected simultaneously as a Democrat to the Ninetieth and to the Ninety-first Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States Representative Elmer J. Holland, and reelected to the ten succeeding Congresses (November 5, 1968-January 3, 1993); was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Third Congress in 1992; died on February 7, 2015, in Elizabeth Township, Pa; interment at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Monroeville, Pa.
