FOSTER, A. Lawrence, a Representative from New York; September 17, 1802; attended the public schools; studied law in Vernon; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Morrisville about 1827; elected as a Whig to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1841-March 3, 1843); chairman, Committee on Expenditures in the Department of the Treasury (Twenty-seventh Congress); tax commissioner; settled permanently in Virginia where he died on May 21, 1877; interment in Glenwood Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
