Department of Labor, 1976; elected as an Independent to the Ninety-seventh Congress, and elected
as a Democrat to the Ninety-eighth and to the seven succeeding Congresses, served until his resignation
on November 11, 1997 (January 3, 1981-November 11, 1997); United States Ambassador to Italy,
1997-2001; professional advocate; died on November 13, 2004, in Philadelphia, Pa.; interment in
Holy Cross Cemetery.
