DICKINSON, William Louis, a Representative from Alabama; born in Opelika, Lee County, Ala.,
June 5, 1925; attended the public schools of Opelika, Ala.; served in United
States Navy, 1943-1946; major, United States Air Force Reserves; University of
Alabama Law School, J.D., 1950; was admitted to the bar in 1950 and began
practice in Opelika, Ala.; Opelika city judge, 1952-1954; judge of Lee County
Court of Common Pleas and of Juvenile Court, 1954-1958; circuit judge, Fifth
Judicial Circuit of Alabama, 1958-1962; assistant vice president of the
Southern Railway System, 1962-1964; member of Opelika Board of Education,
1954-1962, and served as president in 1961; member and one of cofounders of the
board of directors of Lee County Rehabilitation Center, 1960-1962; member of
Governors Industrial Development Committee of One Hundred, 1963; delegate,
State Republican conventions, 1964, 1966, 1968, and 1970; delegate, Republican
National Convention, 1968; elected as a Republican to the Eighty-ninth and to
the thirteen succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1965-January 3, 1993); was not a
candidate for renomination in 1992 to the One Hundred Third Congress; died on
March 31, 2008, in Montgomery, Ala.
