CREAMER, Thomas James, a Representative from New York; born near Garadice Lake, Ireland,
May 26, 1843; immigrated to the United States and took up his residence in New
York City; attended the public schools; shipping clerk in a dry-goods house in
1860; studied law; was admitted to the bar and practiced; member of the State
assembly 1865-1867; served in the State senate 1868-1871; city tax commissioner
for five years; acted as counsel for State commissions to revise the tax laws;
elected as a Democrat to the Forty-third Congress (March 4, 1873-March 3,
1875); was not a candidate for renomination in 1874; elected to the
Fifty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1901-March 3, 1903); was not a candidate for
renomination in 1902; resumed the practice of law in New York City, and died
there August 4, 1914; interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
