CLANCY, John Michael, a Representative from New York; born in County Queens, Ireland, May
7, 1837; immigrated with his parents to the United States and settled in New
York City; attended the public schools of Brooklyn; engaged in the real-estate
business; served as an alderman of the city of Brooklyn 1868-1875; member of
the State assembly 1878-1881; elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-first,
Fifty-second, and Fifty-third Congresses (March 4, 1889-March 3, 1895); was not
a candidate for renomination in 1894; resumed the real-estate business in New
York City; unsuccessful candidate for election in 1896 to the Fifty-fifth
Congress; died in Butte, Mont., while returning from a visit to Yellowstone
Park, July 25, 1903; interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y.
