BROWN, Ernest S., a Senator from Nevada; born in Alturas, Modoc County, Calif.,
September 25, 1903; moved with his family to Reno, Nev. in 1906; attended the
public schools; graduated from the University of Nevada at Reno in 1926;
studied law; admitted to the bar in 1927 and commenced practice in Reno, Nev.;
member, State assembly 1933; district attorney of Washoe County 1935-1941,
resigning in December 1941 to enter active service in the United States Army as
a second lieutenant; commissioned a colonel and discharged in December 1945;
returned to Reno and resumed the practice of law; appointed on October 1, 1954,
as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the
death of Pat McCarran, and served until December 1, 1954; was unsuccessful for
election to the vacancy; resumed the practice of law; died in Reno, Nev., July
23, 1965; interment in Masonic section of Mountain View Cemetery.
