BONKER, Don Leroy, a Representative from Washington; born in Denver, Colo., March 7,
1937; attended the public schools in Westminister, Colo.; A.A., Clark College,
Vancouver, Wash., 1962; B.A., Lewis and Clark College, Portland, Oreg., 1964;
graduate work, American University, Washington, D.C., 1964; served in United
States Coast Guard, first class yeoman, 1955-1959; Clark County auditor,
Vancouver, Wash., 1966-1974; aide to United States Senator Maurine Neuberger,
1964-1965; unsuccessful candidate for Washington secretary of state, 1972;
delegate to Washington State Democratic conventions, 1968-1970; elected as a
Democrat to the Ninety-fourth and to the six succeeding Congresses (January 3,
1975-January 3, 1989); was not a candidate in 1988 for reelection to the United
States House of Representatives, but was an unsuccessful candidate for
nomination to the United States Senate; unsuccessful candidate in 1992 for
nomination to the United States Senate; is a resident of Bainbridge Island,
Wash.
