BELTZHOOVER, Frank Eckels, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Silver Spring Township, Cumberland
County, Pa., November 6, 1841; attended Big Spring Academy, Newville; was graduated from
Pennsylvania College at Gettysburg in 1862; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1864 and
commenced practice in Carlisle, Pa.; chairman of the Democratic committee of Cumberland County
1868 and 1873; district attorney 1874-1877; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in
1876; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-sixth and Forty-seventh Congresses (March 4, 1879-March
3, 1883); was not a candidate for renomination in 1882; elected to the Fifty-second and Fifty-third
Congresses (March 4, 1891-March 3, 1895); chairman, Committee on War Claims (Fifty-second and
Fifty-third Congresses); was not a candidate for renomination in 1894; resumed the practice of law in
Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pa.; discontinued the practice of his profession in 1910 and moved to
Los Angeles, Calif., where he lived in retirement until his death on June 2, 1923; interment in Ashland
Cemetery, Carlisle, Pa.
