ALLEN, Alfred Gaither, a Representative from Ohio; born on a farm near Wilmington, Clinton
County, Ohio, July 23, 1867; attended the public schools; was graduated from
Wilmington High School in 1886 and from the law school of the University of
Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1890; was admitted to the bar in 1890 and commenced
practice in Cincinnati, Ohio; United States commissioner 1896-1900; delegate to
the Democratic State conventions at Columbus in 1901 and 1908; member of the
city council 1906-1908; member of the board of the sinking-fund trustees of
Cincinnati 1908-1910; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-second, Sixty-third,
and Sixty-fourth Congresses (March 4, 1911-March 3, 1917); declined to be a
candidate for renomination in 1916; resumed the practice of his profession in
Cincinnati; delegate to the Democratic National Convention at San Francisco in
1920; served as president of the Cincinnati Bar Association in 1925 and 1926;
died in Cincinnati, Ohio, December 9, 1932; interment in Sugar Grove Cemetery,
Wilmington, Ohio.
